{"id":62,"date":"2017-09-12T08:22:23","date_gmt":"2017-09-12T15:22:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lesjohnston.allansplace.ca\/?p=62"},"modified":"2023-03-18T17:01:13","modified_gmt":"2023-03-19T00:01:13","slug":"the-viewing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lesjohnston.allansplace.ca\/index.php\/2017\/09\/12\/the-viewing\/","title":{"rendered":"the viewing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There was a viewing today.\u00a0 Les, Tammy, Laura, Isobel, Carley, Sherry, Lou, Tammy&#8217;s Mom, and I were there.\u00a0 We met at Woodlawn Mr. Cheam Funeral Home, Chilliwack, at 4pm.<\/p>\n<p>I went in to identify him.\u00a0 (This is apparently an crucial part.)\u00a0 Yes, that was Father.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-64\" src=\"https:\/\/lesjohnston.allansplace.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/20170912_162805-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lesjohnston.allansplace.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/20170912_162805-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/lesjohnston.allansplace.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/20170912_162805-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/lesjohnston.allansplace.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/20170912_162805-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/lesjohnston.allansplace.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/20170912_162805-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/lesjohnston.allansplace.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/20170912_162805-2048x1152.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/lesjohnston.allansplace.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/20170912_162805-1200x675.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/> <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>He was in a white shirt with collar and his grey suit jacket.\u00a0 His hair was combed nicely, hands folded in front of him.\u00a0 He looked very peaceful, almost with a content look on his face.\u00a0 He was also covered up with a blanket, just the way he liked.<\/p>\n<p>Aunt Isobel brought flowers from her garden.\u00a0 Laura put them into a vase to set beside him, and we later brought them home.\u00a0 I believe he has always secretly liked flowers.\u00a0 He&#8217;d mix them up into his vegetable garden on the sly.<\/p>\n<p>I chose a dark grey round leather urn &#8211; leather because Father was always a leather boots, leather belt, leather work gloves kind of guy.\u00a0 I also chose and a matching one for Glenn.\u00a0 They were always two peas in a pod.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure they&#8217;re having a pint together now.<\/p>\n<p>His initials L J on his fingers &#8230; Aunt Isobel said that my Mom&#8217;s sister, Merine, put it there.\u00a0 I did not know that.\u00a0 After so many years, it stood out.\u00a0 Nothing about him faded.<\/p>\n<p>We went back to Father&#8217;s house for cake.\u00a0 Aunt Isobel made a chocolate brownie with chocolate icing and raisins &#8211; the way Father liked it.\u00a0 Really good.\u00a0 Unfortunately, Tammy, her Mom, and Les didn&#8217;t come back for cake.<\/p>\n<p>Aunt Isobel wrote an obituary that will be put in the Chilliwack Progress, the Vancouver Sun, and the Brandon Sun.<\/p>\n<p><em>Leslie Gordon Johnston of Rosedale, BC<\/em><br \/>\n<em>March 25th 1937 &#8211; Sept. 11th, 2017<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Fourth son of Robert &amp; Frances Johnston of Justice MB<\/em><br \/>\n<em>One of 7 children, Les was raised on the farm at Justice, moving to Brandon, Snow Lake, and North Surrey in 1966 where he worked as an Eaton&#8217;s repairman until he retired and moved to Langley and eventually Rosedale in 2007.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Les was predeceased by parents Robert &amp; Frances Johnston, brothers Mel, Al, &amp; Bill, son Glenn, niece Melva, and nephew Ron.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Les is survived by two of his three children, Angela Aizlynn of Wetherby, UK; Justin Allan of Lethbridge; sisters Mame &amp; Isobel, brother Don, grandson Les, and faithful Laura whose love &amp; tender care improved his quality of life which she shared with him until the end.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Les was a wannabe farmer who raised beef &amp; pork and had a wonderful garden &amp; a thriving egg business.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>He was a good guy &amp; will be missed.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I added:<\/p>\n<p><em>A Celebration Of Life will be held in December.\u00a0 Please see website lesjohnston.ca for more.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow will be a world without Father, Les, Dad, Grandpa.\u00a0 It&#8217;ll be a very different world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There was a viewing today.\u00a0 Les, Tammy, Laura, Isobel, Carley, Sherry, Lou, Tammy&#8217;s Mom, and I were there.\u00a0 We met at Woodlawn Mr. Cheam Funeral Home, Chilliwack, at 4pm.
